Manly Fun Run 5K and Eric's last surf with his Aussie Board

I was given #1 as my entry number. Pressure!
On Sunday Eric and I joined a thousand + Australian's for the annual Manly Fun Run 5K. We trained as much as we could before the day came and it turned out to be quite easy for the both of us, having that many people around us to keep us moving and motivated. Eric ran on ahead and came in a few minutes ahead of me. I ended up just at a jogging pace when I went through the finish line as we were under the impression (from the map online) that the race went down the beach and then back up to the finish line.     Oh well, it was still a good run, tho we don't really know what our times might have been had we pushed our selves at the end. You see me in the video going through the finish line, all smiles, just slowly jogging along because I think I still have to go all the way down to the end of the beach and back up, as we had been training. Needless to say,  I was thoroughly confused once I got through the finish line and everyone was stopped and clogging up what I thought was the race path.
We are going to run the Sydney City to Surf 14K on Sunday August 14th; and as I write this now, I admit we have not been running as much as we should be. Time to pick up the pace!
Since the 5k we did on Saturday was over before 9am we were out and about all day. The sun went away later in the day but that didn't stop Eric from taking out his new Australian flag surfboard. I stayed on the beach so I could take video. Eric was getting pretty thrashed around from the waves, but some of the local kids were zooming by. Thankfully we soon learned why....
Randomly, this Aussie man stopped us, as we were chatting on the beach during one of Eric's breaks, and asked if he could borrow Eric's board for a short 15 minute surf session. He said he was down in Manly for an appointment and would love to just catch a wave for a minute. We thought it was pretty cute that he asked us to borrow his board and enjoyed watching him. Turns out this guy was Eric's surf angel cause he came back in from his surf he said he was having a hard time on it cause the board is for waves like in Indonesia and not for waves around Sydney. He asked where Eric bought it, and when the place turned about to be just across the street, he offered to go over there with him and talk to the surf shop about trading it in for a shorter board that is better the waves out  here. A surf angel in the sand.
So funny and nice how it all turned out cause Eric came back with a short board and is now riding so much better!!

  1. I got a "this video is private" notice on the Run video, but am glad Eric is riding more easily on his new board than on the one in the surf video
