Feeding our Cockatoo friends after surfing
Still in our wetsuits, (called "wetties" here in OZ) as we walk home wearing them, we returned to the apartment to find our feathered friends patiently waiting for a Saturday afternoon seed treat. In the video you see me feeding them with an oblong pan I bought down stairs at the Salvation Army (called the SALVO store here, but with the same logo.) This bowl did not last long after the video was taken as I discovered I can not leave bird seed out for these parrots like normal birds. When the leader of the flock found the bowl empty, he did not like it one bit, and chucked the whole big bowl over the side of our balcony!! At the time, I was trying to ignore his "screams" for more food, as I have read if you come to their beck and call they will continue to scream and throw tantrums as soon as you stop feeding them. Thus, we ended up with the flying bowl. Luckily five floors down from our 7th floor apartment is the roof to an extension of the complex, so no one got hurt in the hurling. The cockatoos have also thrown a candle over board as well as a handheld scrub brush. Needless to say, nothing stays out on the balcony anymore. :-)
