Standard June winter weekend. Early morning dawn. Manly, NSW, Australia. Eric goes for a surf and I take pictures. On this particular morning I wanted to set up my tripod and play with the video. Video to come.

Sun starts to rise and the glare is so strong no one can see the waves.... or me to wave.

Ah now he sees me and I get him to wave back. Tho he said he was not sure if I was calling him in or waving.

This is why I refrain from Saturday morning surf sessions. (and this is winter!) It's like a parking lot.
Knee boarder, open water swimmer, regular swimmer, body boarder,
surfer going in, surfer going out... iey, iey, iey.
 |
| These lifesaving boards are a popular sport out here. The kids train on them in the jr. lifesaving camps and then grow up riding them as an optional alternative to surfing. The can stand up too, but are the same board the life guards use to save people. (Which is a lot... the rips are very strong and unpredictable in Australia I have learned this on my favorite Aussie show "Bondi Beach Rescue.") |
|
Back at the bower break, the guys have it good.

| Later on in the morning, kids start to join the 50-80+ y/o active Aussies at the Manly Surf Pavilion. |
