Great Barrier Reef Trip

On Thursday, June 23rd we flew fifteen-hundred miles north to Cairns Australia on Jetstar. We left winter in Sydney and arrived in a warm tropical environment that initially reminded us a lot of Florida. (That soon changed when we saw the mountains and rain forests flowing down to the sandy beaches.)  I had not yet told Eric where I booked us to stay, as I wanted it to be a surprise, so he did not know where we were going next.  I had been searching for a place for us to stay around Port Douglas or Palm Cove that had an infinity pool over-looking the ocean, and did not find a place till the last minute, through a wonderful travel agent I fell upon out of Trinity Beach, named Joel. (www.divethereef.com) After I told him what I was looking for, he recalled seeing a pool like that of which I was describing while walking his dog, and was able to come up with the name, using google satellite. This place was called VUE Apartments, and it turned out to be the best choice we could have made, as it was so so nice having a kitchen and bbq to cook at each night, and a lovely balcony to enjoy breakfast and dinner, overlooking the ocean, without having to pay to go out to eat. I highly recommend looking at holiday apartments vs. hotels if you every come to Australia.
Our trip ended up going like this.

Thursday: relax in the sun on our balcony at our holiday apt. at Trinity Beach
Friday: 1 snorkel and 2 dives on the Great Barrier Reef, off our boat that left out of Port Douglas
Sat: Relax by the pool and
Sunday: 3 dives on Great Barrier Reef off boat that left out of Cairns
Monday: Cairns Zoo to hold the koala

Our entire trip is documented in photographs with captions... so click here to see the photos.  And make sure to watch the above video clips from our dives. :-)  To watch video in larger format, double click and it should take you to youtube.
